Die God Really Die? How did God Die?

Apr 5, 2026

This powerful message challenges us to wrestle with one of the most profound mysteries of our faith: how could God die? Drawing from 2 Corinthians 5:8 and the Gospel of John, we're invited to understand that death is not cessation of existence, but separation. When Jesus died on the cross, His physical body experienced death—His soul and spirit separated from His flesh—but His divine nature never ceased to exist. This distinction is crucial for our faith journey. Jesus was fully God and fully man simultaneously, and while His humanity experienced the pain and separation of death, His divinity remained eternal and indestructible. The beauty of this truth is staggering: God loved us so much that He reached out of eternity, stepped into time, created Himself in human form through Mary, and willingly laid down His life while we were still sinners. We didn't earn this sacrifice; we couldn't make ourselves worthy of it. Jesus died for us in our 'jacked up state,' as the message powerfully states. This means we can never take credit for our salvation—it's entirely God's work. The resurrection power that raised Jesus from the grave now dwells in us through the Holy Spirit, but we must activate it by dying to ourselves. When we truly grasp that Jesus had the authority to lay His life down and the authority to take it back up, we understand that we're dealing with a God who controls even death itself. This should transform how we live, how we treat others, and how we share our testimony with a world desperately needing hope.
